Encounter Point

Roundtable interview audio and written by Nobuhiro Hosoki

A century of conflict between civilizations--more specifically Israeli and Palestine, where suicide bombers and kidnappers spew hateful language and commit the ultimate sacrifice called jihad. In the midst of all this, on both sides there are extraordinary individuals who seek to build a secure and peaceful solution for future generations.

This grassroots movement for nonviolence and peace is such a daunting task, particularly for Robi Damelin, who lost her son by a group of palestinian soldier at a checkpoint. Instead of sitting back and mourning in grief, she joined the Bereaved Families Forum. She voiced her support of Israeli and Palestinian reconciliation throughout Israel to prevent the whole vicious cycle of violence.

Even further, Ali Abu Awwad, Palestinian soldier who lost his brother, got shot his leg and spent years in an Israeli prison. Instead of seeking revenge, he meets with Palestine militants in the hopes of making peace with enemy.
What doesn't make the papers is sometimes more intriguing than what's on the front page.
