Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Written by Nobuhiro Hosoki

The latest product of excessive male nudity from the Apatow production "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" is a combination of slacker humor and some surprising sincere moments. An unassuming fellow, Peter (Jason Segel) spends most of his time scarfing up gargantuan bowls of cereal while composing background music for a quirky homicidal TV show.

The star of this show is his girlfriend, the glamorous sex-bomb Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell) who just dropped her break-up bomb on Peter by announcing she's dating someone else she met recently. Peter was destroyed in many aspects, but at his stepbrother's suggestion, he trips down to a luxury hotel resort in Hawaii to regain his love flame.

Unfortunately his intention gets disrupted by the appearance of Sarah herself with her new boyfriend, British rock star Aldous Snow (Russell Brand). In his plight he was recognized by the hotel's beautiful concierge, Rachel (Mila Kunis), who takes pity on Peter and allows him to stay for free in an extravagant suite that only Bill Gates can afford.

Rachel goes a little beyond the call of duty in dragging this sadsack around the picturesque islands, and the two get into a cozy relationship. Meanwhile Sarah beginsto feel that bad-boy rocker Adlous may not be the one after all. She painfully attempts a last-ditch effort to win Peter back.

The film is infused with bawdy ridiculous shtick and some romantic payoff. Jason Segel plays an overly sensitive yet amiable man, exposing more than his emasculated character. Such a shameless effort of Judd Apatow's projects often hits well in our home country! It doesn't end up being like "Knocked up" or "Superbad" but it definitely tickles you funny bone.
